While "Varnamala" means Rainbow- a faint thing of hope, dreams and beauty, "Varna" from means Class or Colour. This film similarly combines both the harsh cruelty of life back then like the stigma of the 'Varnas' and the thin sliver of hope that a rainbow represents.
