Retro is a 2025 Indian Tamil-language romantic action film, written and directed by Karthik Subbaraj. Produced by Stone Bench Creations and 2D Entertainment, the film stars Suriya and Pooja Hegde in the lead roles.
Story
Paarivel “Paari” Kannan, an orphan raised by a gangster, faces betrayal and a violent cult as he searches for his true origins, fulfils a prophecy, and tries to reunite with his lost love, Rukmini.
Review
A well shot movie, retro entertains us with it’s aesthetics and choreography. The gangster story holds our attention for 30 minutes before being dragged out and slow.
The acting by Suriya is well done and deserves praise and there are a lot of enjoyable parts in this movie with particularly fun single shots but these don’t hold our attention for long and it becomes slow and the second half especially feels drawn out without a proper ending.
Verdict
It is a one-time watch for Suriya but it is not a comeback for Suriya and would not be a recommendation for this weekend.
