“Prasanna Vadanam” is a Telugu thriller film written and directed by Arjun Y K, and produced by Manikanta J S and Prasad Reddy T R under the banners of Little Thoughts Cinemas and Arha Media. The movie stars Suhas and Payal Radha Krishna in lead roles, with Rashi Singh Nandu, Harsha, and others in supporting roles. The film’s music is composed by Vijay Bulganin, cinematography is handled by S. Chandrasekaran, and editing is done by Karthika Srinivas R. The movie garnered attention from moviegoers due to its unique concept of the protagonist having face blindness. Let’s explore how the debut writer-director utilized this concept.

Story:

Surya, portrayed by Suhas, works as a radio DJ. He struggles with a condition called Face Blindness, which prevents him from recognizing faces, even those of his closest friends like Vignesh (played by Harsha Chemudu) and his girlfriend Aadhya (played by Payal Radhakrishna). Despite his condition, Surya is always eager to help others.

One night, he witnesses a murder, but due to his Face Blindness, he can’t identify the killer. He decides to seek help from the police, but things take a turn for the worse. What happens next? Did the police catch the murderer? And despite his condition, what role did Surya play in this?

Analysis:

Face blindness might be a new concept for the Telugu audience. Director Arjun YK managed to keep the audience engaged with this idea. The movie begins by showing how Surya develops face blindness, his reactions to it, and how it affects his personal and professional life. These scenes are well done.

It takes a while for the movie to get to the main plot, where Surya witnesses a murder and things go downhill from there. Surya struggles and tries to solve the case. There are enough twists and drama around the concept to make it a thrilling watch, although some scenes slow down the pace, even though they are necessary to establish Surya’s condition strongly. The director could have paid more attention to the screenplay to keep the audience engaged throughout. The screenplay is crucial for a movie, and the director succeeded about seventy percent here. The movie has just the right amount of twists, not too many or too few.

As for the performances, Suhas, known for his successful career, confidently takes on another challenging role, delivering an impressive performance as a character dealing with face blindness. Rashi steals the show with her versatile acting. Harsha, heroine Payal Radhakrishna, and Nandu also performed well in their respective roles.

Vijay Bulganin’s music adds to the intensity of key scenes, along with decent cinematography by S. Chandrasekaran and editing by Karthika Srinivas. However, the songs don’t leave much of an impact. The production values are decent.

Debut director Arjun YK shows promise, but there’s room for improvement, particularly in tightening the screenplay to maintain a better pace.

Highs:

  • Engaging storyline.
  • Strong performances from the cast, particularly Rashi.
  • Well-executed interval.
  • Gripping pre-climax and climax.

Lows:

  • Pacing issues in some parts.
  • Songs lack impact.
  • Inconsistent tone, with love scenes feeling disconnected from the rest of the movie.

Technical Aspects:

Vijay Bulganin’s score enhances crucial scenes, complemented by satisfactory cinematography from S. Chandrasekaran and editing by Karthika Srinivas. However, the songs fail to make an impact during viewing. The production values are decent.

Debut director Arjun YK shows promise, but a tighter focus on the screenplay, particularly in maintaining pace, is necessary for improvement.

Verdict:

Prasanna Vadanam presents a fresh concept of face blindness to Telugu audiences, with commendable efforts from director Arjun YK. While the engaging storyline and strong performances, especially from Suhas and Rashi, are highlights, pacing issues, and inconsistent tone slightly detract from the overall impact. Nonetheless, it shows promise with its unique premise and solid execution.
